Recruiting
The Final Two Candidates
3 thoughts on how these two made it to the last interview.
I was excited to be hired by another nonprofit to help them find their next Chief Development Officer. For those of you not in the nonprofit world, this is the person who leads the organization’s fundraising efforts.
Although at Altrui we focus on working with clients to support their relationship building and fundraising, we have been doing several searches lately, searches that if succesful will help the organization create a strong fundraising team which in turn will support fundraising efforts.
In this search, we ended up with two amazing candidates. Here are three reasons why these two made it as a finalist:
Their cover letters were spot on. Yes, I know many recruiters say the cover letter is dead. We required one for this search, and I was ecstatic with what we received. These two candidates wrote about their experience in connection with what we asked for in the job announcement. Both cover letters were spectacular, taking each point we wanted them to have experience in and sharing about how that matched them.
During the first interview, a phone call, both were energetic and happy. Better said, they came across as if they were happy to be on the call, happy to be considered for the position. They answered all of the questions professionally, and they each asked questions that seemed perfect.
Lastly, they both were on time for all three interviews.
There are many people in the job market, and I hope these three observations are helpful as you apply for your next position.
Take a risk. Be of service. Support your friends and colleagues. Be kind.
