In November of 2018 we decided to change our travel destination for Thanksgiving from San Felipe, Mexico to Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. The reason was that the friends we meet for the week come from Albuquerque and the new destination cuts their road trip time down significantly while only adding a bit to ours. I am forever glad that we did this.

It’s difficult to pin down what exactly Puerto Peñasco is. A small fishing village? A quick getaway for Arizonans? Or, for people like us, a sweet getaway destination with an opportunity to rent a home on a beach and simply relax.

Puerto Peñasco is tucked in the northeast corner of the Gulf of California, also known as the Sea of Cortés. This is the body of water that separates the Baja California peninsula from mainland Mexico.
