Picacho State Park is a treat.

On a roadtrip to Tucson, I decied to stop here to see if I could find a good hike, an opportunity to stretch my legs after six plus hours on the road.

Right of off highway I-10, I found this wonderful state park. For $7.00 I got in and went to the trail head of a trail the ranger suggested, the Sunset Vista Trail. Very easy to get to from the entrance, a straight drive for a mile or so.

The trail is five miles round trip, with the first two miles in average difficulty. Then comes the point that you go almost straight up to the top.

Everywhere you look from the trail is beautiful. Photo credit: Author

If you decide to go to the top, be ready for uphill climbing. For any part of the hike bring plenty of water (you are in the desert), and I brought a cap to protect from the sun.
