Four and a Half Years Into My Consulting Business

Thinking of actions I have taken as Altrui continues to grow.

In October of 2019 I left my position as Chief Development Officer for a local Los Angeles nonprofit and introduced the world to Altrui Consulting.

And just like that it’s been four and a half years!

I loved leading nonprofit fundraising teams, and my last position was the writing on the wall to try something different. I had always thought about building my own consulting company, and after an inspiring conversation with my husband and a few close friends, I decided to go for it.

Altrui Consulting was born.

I have never looked back, regretted the decision to go out on my own, or been more grateful to be in nonprofit fundraising.

I wanted to write this article after reading some honest shares on social media of people wanting to leave their job and try it on their own (both within the nonprofit world and outside of it), and those who have their own new business and are struggling a bit.

I am still very new to this world of entrepreneurship, or solopreneurship (knowing some don’t consider consultants solopreneurs), and I have experienced a lot that I think may help my colleagues.
