Border Field State Park

A great place to hike right along the border with Mexico.

If you’re ever in the San Diego area, I highly recommend a trip to Border Field State Park, which goes along the US-Mexico border all the way to the Pacific Ocean.

The hike itself is low difficulty. From the parking lot to the ocean there is no elevation except for a hill that goes up to Friendship Park, at the end of the hiking trail.

A stop sign marking the area next to the border wall you cannot enter. Sand behind the sign, then the wall. Palm tree in upper left, and blue sky at top.

I first hiked this trail because I wanted to see what it was like to be able to hike along the border. And because hiking is part of my self-care regimen! I continue hiking here because it’s a great hike, one that offers views of Tijuana, beautiful flowers and fauna, and of course the ocean.

Depending on the time of year you hike, you can see extraordinary color, from dozens of types of plants and flowers.
